Homely

Finally, I drew this one on an old sheet of paper I found years ago on the sidewalk.

  1. What a beautiful combination of color we have here... the dirtied paper supporting a wondrous eggplant/red-brown shade of pastel. All this takes place in one of Verena's great works. Never has there been such a union of form and content. Each line, down to its most minute gesture, is exquisitely visual in itself while simultaneously and seamlessly expressing the poetry and necessity of depiction. One can rest one's eyes and explore the chalky confluence of line and in the same moment completely and totally believe in the image brought forth. The true wisdom of art is this uncanny coming together of material and image and here we see a wonderful example of this. The Woman actually becomess a concrete transparency, so to speak.
